Amendment 11
Protects the state from being sued by people outside of that state

Made it so that presidential elections can’t end in a tie

Amendment 13
Abolished slavery and forced work, except for the purpose of crime punishment

Guarantees EQUAL protection under law (can’t take away life, liberty, or property w/o due process)

Amendment 15
Gave black men the right to vote by stating that it can’t be denied based on race, condition, or type of job.
Remember: I 1(won) a 5k RACE = can’t be denied by race or other characteristics
Amendment 16
Granted Congress power to impose an income tax.
Remember: When you’re 16, that’s when you start taxes
Amendment 17
Gave people the power to vote for senators, rather than state legislatures doing it. This is called DIRECT, popular voting.

Stopped making, selling, and the transport of alcohol.

Granted equal voting rights for women - pushed for by the Women’s Movement

Shorter lame duck periods for newly elected officials and allowed an easier transition
Remember: 20 looks like a swan 🦢 = lame duck period or January 20th
Amendment 21
Repealed the 18th Amendment (being the only one to), and allowed alcohol again

Limited presidents to only two terms

Washington DC residents become allowed to vote in presidential elections!

Abolished poll taxes for when voting

Amendment 25
Clarifies presidential succession if presidents are unavailable, procedures for filling VP vacancies, and for when to declare a president unable to serve - sparked by JFK assassination

Lowers voting age to 18 for all elections - motivated by Vietnam war
Remember: 2 + 6 = 8(teen) = new voting age!
Amendment 27
Pay for Congress and any changes to it can only occur AFTER elections in the House
Remember: 27 is the end of the amendments, and Congress can only change pay at the END of elections
