Snellen
A measurement of visual acuity that indicates the distance one can see compared to a standard (usually expressed as distance/distance).
MAR (Minimum Angle of Resolution)
The smallest angle of resolution that the visual system can detect, typically measured in minutes of arc.
LogMAR
A scale of visual acuity that expresses acuity in logarithmic units, useful for varying test distances.
Decimal VA
A method to express visual acuity where Snellen fractions are converted into a decimal format.
Amblyopia
A developmental anomaly characterized by decreased vision in one or both eyes, often due to strabismus or anisometropia.
Contrast Sensitivity Function (CSF) in Amblyopia
The ability to detect contrasts at different spatial frequencies, often showing lower sensitivity, particularly at high spatial frequencies.
Visual Acuity Specification
A method of defining visual performance using terms like better/worse instead of higher/lower.
Strabismus
A condition where the eyes do not properly align with each other; can lead to amblyopia if untreated.
Early Intervention for Amblyopia
Using treatments like eye patches at young ages (0-3 years) for more effective outcomes in managing amblyopia.
Letter Spacing in LogMAR Charts
The uniform spacing of letters both between and within rows, which aids in systematic testing of visual acuity.
