Simple Sentece
A sentence that can stand alone as a complete thought and contains a subject and a verb.
Compound Sentence
A sentence with 2 independent clauses and is combined with a comma semicolon or conjunction
Complex Sentence
Sectence with one independent clause and at least one dependent clause
Compound-Complex
A sentence including one or more dependent clause(s) and two or more independent clauses combined by a conjunction or semicolon
Independent Clause
Includes subject and verb, expresses complete thought, and can stand alone
Dependent Clause
Includes a subject and verb, but does not express a complete thought, and cannot stand alone
Subordinating Conjunctions
Connects dependent clause to independent clause showing relashionship Examples: Because, Although, Since, When, While
Conjunctions
Connects 2 words, phrases, or independent clauses (coordinating)
Example:FANBOYS
Conjunctive Adverbs
These tell how, when, or where something happened or something is. Always have a semicolon in front of it and a comma after.
Examples: She went into the store; however, she didn't find anything she wanted to buy.
I like you a lot; in fact, I think we should be best friends.
