what is asexual reproduction?
a clone in an organism that is genetically identical to its parent
how do organisms asexually reproduce?
replicate genetic material and divide by mitosis
NO mixing of genetic material
each organism contains identical gene- same parents
what is sexual reproduction
producing new organisms through the combination of gene information from 2 people
what are gametes
sperm and ova that fuse together in fertilisation
Advantage of asexual and sexual reproduction
ASEXUAL- 1 parent needed so it is faster and large number of offspring produced
SEXUAL- adaptions in species so they can cope with environment
disadvantages of asexual and sexual reproduction
ASEXUAL- changes to biotic and abiotic features leads to destruction of species
SEXUAL- requires 2 parents and less offspring is produced at a slower rate
