What are quartiles?

-The quartiles split the data into quartiles.

-The lower quartile is ¼ of the way into the data.

-The upper quartile is ¾ of the way into the data.

-The median is 2/4 of the way into the data.

How to find lower quartile.

• n+1/ 4= position of lower quartile.

How to find the median.

• n+1/2= position of the median.

How to find the upper quartile?

• 3 x LQ position= position of upper quartile.

Do you order the numbers before finding the quartiles?

-Yes, from lowest to highest.

What is the interquartile range.

• The upper quartile- the lower quartile.

• Smaller interquartile means more consistency and vice-versa.

-Based on the median, we can say the average weather is warm.

-The interquartile range tells us that the weather is consistent.
