One Point v Two Point Calibration
One point calibration sets the device to one known point(like tarring a scale so that its new baseline is zero). Two point calibration uses two known values to calibrate the instrument(goinameter).
Accuracy v Precision
Precision checks to see how far apart the measured values are(think standard deviation). Accuracy checks to see how close the measured values are to known values( percent error kinda)
When should calibration occur (sensor is on/off the device)
Sensor off the device, to ensure that the values used to calibrate are the most accurate they can be and aren’t altered by the device in any way.
Proper use of load cell(force transducer)
The screws need to be pulled apart-not pushed together
Mechanism for air muscle contraction
As you increase the pressure(air) in the muscle, it contracts and shortens. To make it longer, you release the pressure.
Air Muscle Controlled Variables + Limitations
Pressure max, range of motion was small
Electrodes Used
Two Pos(CH1) on bicep, Two neg( CH2) placed the tricep. Earth/Reference placed on the wrist that wasn’t being used.
What operation was used to produce meaningful EMG data
Integration
If unable to measure release angle when throwing a ball, what accommodation and assumption can be made in order to calculate release velocity?
The height of release was the same throughout all trials, angle was parallel to the ground at release
Independent/Dependent variables in tension
Independent: Time, mass added
Dependent: Change in length
Independent/Dependent variables in compression
Independent: Weight Applied
Dependent: Change in width, change in height
Gelatin
Has the same amino acid sequence as collagen, used as a model of an implant composed of a naturally derived polymer.
Glutaraldehyde
Disinfectant? IDK I googled this one
Blue Dextran
The “drug” being released
Trypsin
Used to model the bodies digestion, as its digestion ability affects many proteins.
Sterilization Methods
Bleach-disposal of liquids
BSC/Culture Hood-Aseptic technique
Ethanol- Used to sterilize going in/out of the hood
Autoclave- Sterilize materials to be used for aseptic technique
How do Cells Adhere?
Integrins bind to extra-cellular proteins in vivo. In vitro proteins adhere first, then the cells interact and Adhere to the proteins.
Paraformaldehyde
Used to control the crosslinking of the polymer
How to find elastic modulus from stress-strain
In elastic region, change in stress/change in strain
Poisson’s ratio
-(transverse/axial)
