How did forces assemble over Yorkshire?
Despite initial failures of Lincoln uprising, a series of regional armies or ‘hosts’ soon started assembling cross Yorkshire and other northern areas

A lawyer called Robert Aske, very powerful and influential
What happened in Westmorland?
A rebel army was established when the priest didn’t announce the forthcoming holy day

The rebels rose to defend Sawley Abbey- panic spread about attacks on beliefs
What happened in York?
Rebels seized York, Lord Darcy willingly surrendered Pontefract Castle- became the rebel’s base
What brought the rebels time?
The size of the rebel forces greatly outnumbered H’s men, and H sent the Duke of Norfolk to negogiate
How was Pontefract a strategic location?
‘Gateway to the North’

Demands were drawn up and given to Norfolk
What did Henry offer the rebels?
A general pardon, a parliament to discuss the issues and a truce- Aske insisted monasteries must not be closed before parliament met. Agreement reached and rebels dispersed
