Alpha Decay
Occurs when there are too many protons and neutrons. Dispenses 2 protons and 2 neutrons as an Alpha Particle.
Beta Decay
Occurs when there are too many neutrons. Converts one neutron into a proton by ejecting an electron.
Electron Capture
Occurs when there are too many protons. The atom gains an electron to turn a proton into a neutron.
Positron Emission
Occurs when there are too many protons. Ejects a positron to turn a proton into a neutron.
Fission
Occurs when large nuclei split into similarly sized small nuclei. Occurs when an atom gains a neutron causing it to split into three neutrons and 2 smaller atoms.
Fusion
Occurs when two atoms make a bigger one. Extreme energy and heat are required. Produces a small particle and large atom.
Artificial Transmutation
Mimics natural fusion process on the sun to create new elements. Large elements added with a small particle. Any element greater than 92 was created with this process or similar.
