Rubens, Entombment, oil sketch, c. 1612 Copying and Imitation in Baroque era
Saw Caravaggio’s Entombment and essentially wanted a copy of the work. Not for monetary gain, just wanted a record of it, used for education. Not a full oil painting since it’s just a study not so much an actual physical picture. First real oil sketch, now sketch had color.

Pasolini, Bacchic Concert, oil, 1625, Copying and Imitation in Baroque era
A finished version that would have competed with Caravaggio’s. Essentially stealing his painting and removing his style from it. His originality is getting watered down, they strip away his innovations.

Alfred Leslie, The Killing of Frank O’Hara series; The Loading Dock, oil, 1975, Caravaggio in 20th C.t
Obviously reminiscent of Caravaggio’s Entombment. Copying the tense scenes.

David Reed, #275, mixed media (oil plus), 1989, Caravaggio in 20th C.t
Baroque is the art of the fold.

Dottie Attie, A Violent Child, oil 1988, Caravaggio in 20th C.t
Making a story about Caravaggios actual upbringing.

Andres Serrano, Memory, 1983, cibachrome print, Caravaggio in 20th C
Photographs related to performance art. Excessive religious experiences and drama. Abject realism, emphasis on physical suffering and the body.

Carrie Mae Weems, Kitchen Table series, 1990, gelatin silver print, Caravaggio in 20th C.
Copying tense scenes of everyday life, set up and studio like. Dramatic settings with exploiting lighting (not in the same way but updated to modern composition) one figure is way more lit up than the other, how to explain the focus of the painting with the light. Hyper qualities about Caravaggio’s paintings. Thinking of Caravaggio after his first American exhibition in NYC in the 1985. Around the table which is a tense scene of interaction.
