What is the chronology of events between Paul and the Corinthian Church?
First Letter (Corinthians A): Paul writes a short letter before 1 Cor. telling them to deal and how to deal with sexual immorality in the church. The letter is lost to us, but is explained in 1 Cor.
Second Letter: Paul writes 1 Cor. on the third missionary journey from Ephesus in AD 53-54. 1 Cor. is a follow up to and explanation of Corinthians A.
Third Letter: Paul gets word that the churches in Corinth were ignoring his teachings in 1 Cor., so he writes them a third letter. Paul calls this the "severe letter".
Second Visit: This is the "painful visit" seen in 2 Cor.
Fourth Letter: Paul writes 2 Cor. as an attempt to reconcile with the churches after scolding them

1. We are "weak" and cannot save ourselves, because we are under the condemnation of God. (Rom 5:6)
2. Therefore, God did for us what we could not do for ourselves. Christ died for us to save us from our sins (Rom 5:7-8)
3. God became a human being in the person of Jesus, to live as the perfect man and to die for the sins of the world, so that he might take our sin and give us his righteousness as a gift. (Rom 5:8)
4. God didn't do this because we deserved it. We didn't We deserved condemnation. He did it because he loves us. (Rom 5:8)
5. We can only receive God's salvation by faith. WE can't earn it. If we could earn it, we wouldn't need it. (Rom 5:8-11)
