what is a shell?
parts that compose cap and body of casket
what is a cap (lid)?
top most part of casket shell including ogee, crown, pie and header
what is an ogee (rim)?
an ‘S’ shaped molding that is a component part of casket cap, can also have a double continuous s shaped curve
what is a crown (swell)?
uppermost part of the cap, extending from rim to rim, everything above the rim
what is a pie (fishtail)?
wedge shaped portion of cap at each end of crown
what is a header?
bridge/cap filler
what is ogee flange (rim flange)?
turned under edge or horizontal portion of rim that comes into contact with a gasket or body ledge flange (top body molding flange)
what is a gasket channel?
found on cut top of gasketed casket, function is to hold transverse gasket to seal space between head and foot
what is a body?
portion of casket shell containing top body molding, body panel, base molding, and casket body
what is top body molding (body ledge)?
molding along uppermost edge of body panels
what are body panels?
composes sides and ends of casket shell
what are base panels?
molding along lower most edge on body panels
what is hardware?
handles, ornamental fixtures, and their fittings that are attached to the casket
what is a swing bar?
moveable casket handle with hinged arm. full length, individual, or single.
what is a stationary bar?
non moveable casket handle, can be full length, individual, or single
what is a bail handle?
single handle in which lug, arm, and bar are combined in one unit
