Manual Muscle Testing (MMT)
A procedure for evaluating the function and strength of individual muscles and muscle groups based on effective performance of a movement in relation to gravity and manual resistance.
Muscular Strength
The maximal amount of tension or force a muscle can voluntarily exert in maximal effort.
Muscular Endurance
The ability of a muscle or muscle group to perform repeated contractions against resistance over a period of time.
Contraindication
A condition or factor that serves as a reason to withhold a certain medical treatment.
Gravity Minimized Position
A position in which the test segment is positioned to minimize the effects of gravity for a specific muscle.
Against Gravity (AG)
The test position where the muscle contracts against downward gravitational force.
Grades of Muscle Testing
A standardized scale used to measure muscle strength, ranging from Grade 0 (no movement) to Grade 5 (normal strength).
Reliability of MMT
The consistency of results when the test is repeated by different examiners, with variance not exceeding one half of a grade.
Validity of MMT
The degree to which the MMT system measures what it is intended to measure.
Assessment Procedure
A systematic approach that includes explanation, positioning, stabilization, and evaluation of muscle strength during manual muscle testing.
