in hot deserts, animals burrow underground; in cold deserts, plants dont grow

grassland with shrubs and trees, herbivores and carnivores

thin and poor soil

alpine characteristics

high altitude, plants hug ground and grow in sandy and rocky soil, plants don't decompose quickly because of cold, warm-blooded animals
