Multiplication Rule
The product of the probabilities of two independent events.
Independent Events
Events where the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of another event.
P(AUB)
Symbolizes the probability of A or B occurring, also known as the union of A and B.
P(ANB)
Symbolizes the probability of both A and B occurring, also known as the intersection of A and B.
Joint Probability
The probability of two events happening at the same time.
Venn Diagrams
Visual tools used to represent and calculate probabilities for compound and overlapping events.
Conditional Probability
The probability of an event occurring given that another event has already occurred.
P(A|B)
The probability of event A occurring given that event B has occurred.
P(B|A)
The probability of event B occurring given that event A has occurred.
Caution in Conditional Probability
Always remember that P(A|B) is not the same as P(B|A); they represent different probabilities.
