Define Incidence

the number of new cases of a disease during a given period of time

Define Prevalence

the total number of cases of a disease present in a population at a given time

Define Morbidity

levels of ill-health in an individual or population

Define YLL

the number of years of expected life lost due to premature death

Define YLD

the number of healthy years of life lost due to illness, injury or disability

Define Life Expectancy

an indication of how long an individual can expect to live

Define Burden of Disease

A measure of the total impact of diseases and injury in a population. Specifically, it measures the gap between the current health status and the ideal situation where everyone lives long lives, free from the impacts of disease and injury.

Define Health Adjusted Life Years (HALE)

the number of healthy years an individual can expect to live, based on current rates of ill health and mortality

refers to death at a population level

Define Maternal Mortality

the death of a mother during pregnancy, childbirth or within six weeks of delivery

Define Infant Mortality

the death of a child between birth and their first birthday

Define Under 5 Mortality

the death of a child under 5 years of age
