what’s genetic diversity?
the number of different alleles of genes in a population
what’s gene pool?
the total number of alleles in a population
what is evolution?
change in frequency of alleles over time in a population
what is natural selection?
differential survival and reproductive success of individuals due to differences in phenotypes
what’s a phenotype?
anatomy, behaviour, physiology, biochemistry → all influenced by genes
what does the hardy weinberg principle say?
the proportion of dominant and recessive alleles of any gene in a population will remain the same from one generation to the next provided certain conditions are met
what does natural selection do?
cause a change in the frequency of particular phenotypes and genotypes in a population, resulting in change in proportion of alleles.
