Olfactory nerve function
Carries different impulses for sense of smell
Optic nerve function
Carries impulses for vision.
Oculomotor nerve function
Eye movement and pupillary diameter
Trochlear nerve function
Primarily motor nerve that directs the eyeball. Moves eye down and out (south east)
Trigeminal nerve function
Sensory in forehead, cheek, and jaw. Motor for mastication/ chewing
Abducens nerve function
Motor nerve influencing eye movement. Pulls eye away from midline- abduction
Facial nerve function
Motor function is facial expression. Sensory includes taste on front 2/3 of tongue
Vestibulocochlear nerve function
Solely sensory- equilibrium (balance) and hearing
Glossopharyngeal nerve function
Motor controls part of tongue and throat- swallowing. Sensory taste on back 1/3 of tongue
Vagus nerve function
Sensory is taste in throat, motor is parasympathetic fibers in heart, lungs, and visceral organs. Provides rest to these structures.
Spinal accessory nerve function
Motor moves trapezius and sternocleidomastoid. Turns head and shoulder
Hypoglossal nerve function
Motor to tongue, swallowing, speech, position of tongue
