Method
Put small beaker inside a larger one
Use a kettle to boil 80cm3 of water and pour into the small beaker
Use a piece of cardboard as a kid for the large beaker - poke a hole in it for the thermometer
Put the thermometer through the hole in the lid
Record the temperature of the water and start the stopwatch
Record the temperature of the water every 3 mins for 15 mins
Record your results in a table
Repeat steps using different materials each time to fill the space between the large and small beaker
Variables
IV: type of material
DV: temperature
CV: volume of water, thickness of materials, starting temperature
Errors
Random: some heat will dissipate into surroundings, human error in reading measurements
Systematic: if starting temp is different it'll affect results
Safety
Don't touch beakers when hot
Keep beakers on heatproof mats
Hot water = eye protection
