Arteriole
A terminal artery branching from the main artery that continues into the capillary network; smallest of the vessels to carry blood away from the heart.
Artery
A blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart.
Capillary
A small blood vessel with only an endothelium and a basement membrane through which the exchange of nutrients and waste occurs; connects the arterioles and venules.
Vein
A blood vessel that carries blood toward the heart.
Venule
A small vein that is continuous from a capillary flowing into a larger vein.
