Genomes, Chromosomes, Genes, Alleles, Protein, Traits, Mutation: What are the relationships among all of these things?

Genomes are chromosomes that are in gametes. Alleles are different versions of the same gene. Protein directly impacts traits. Mutations are DNA errors; when they happen in eggs or sperm, they are the source of new alleles that can be passed to offspring.
