Which Muscles perform ankle dorsiflexion? In which compartments of the lower leg are these muscles found.
Tibialis Anterior (anterior compartment)
Extensor Digitorum Longus (anterior compartment)
Extensor Hallicus Longus (anterior compartment)
Fibularis Tertius (anterior compartment)
Tibialis anterior is a major muscle for ankle dorsiflexion & inversion.
Describe the line of pull of the muscle relative to both the medial-lateral axis of dorsiflexion/plantar flexion, as well as the anterior-posterior axis of inversion/eversion
The tibialis anterior lies laterally to the medial-lateral axis which allows for dorsifexion since it lies in front of the ankle joint pulling to perform dorsiflexion
The tibialis anterior also runs medial to the anterior/posterior axis pulling the ankle inward for inversion
