Weathering

The breaking down of loose earth materials at or near the earth's surface

Erosion

The movement of loose earth materials from one location to another

Deposition

The settling of loose earth materials that have been eroded

The winding, curved shape of a river

Physical weathering

When materials break down but don’t change the chemical composition

When plants suddenly grow out of rocks

Ice wedging

When water seeps too deep into the rock, causing it explode

Exfoliation

When skin peels off of rocks due to the expansion

Abrasion

When rocks wear down after they rub against each other too much

Chemical weathering

When materials break down and change the chemical composition

Oxidation

When oxygen reacts with the minerals of a rock, causing rust

Carbonation

CO2 reacts with acids
