Why were graduated driving licenses developed?
As a way to prevent adolescence from being risky/partaking in such behaviour.
What happens when you have a graduated driving license?
New drivers are given a probationary period where their driving is restricted in certain ways (e.g. not being able to drive at night or with passengers).
There are different levels of driving license e.g. learners permit, a restricted/provisional license and then a full license
Does it work?
In New Zealand, car crash injuries reduced by 23% for 15-19 year old and 12% for 20-24 year olds
16 year olds in the US have 37% fewer crashes per year
In the UK it’s estimated it could prevent more than 400 deaths and serious injuries each year and save the economy £200 million/year
