fibrous and cartilaginous (non synovial) joints
held together by connective tissue and allow little or no movement (sutures of the skull and the joint at the ends of the tibia and fibula in the lower leg)
synovial joints
held together by a joint capsule and ligaments ( most associated with movement in the body and 4 general movements occur… gliding, angular, circumduction and rotation 80% of all joints in the body
types of synovial joints
hinge, gliding, condyloid, saddle, pivot and ball and socket
hinge joints
formed when 2 or more joints can only move to flex or extend (ankle and elbow)
ball and socket
ball shaped surface of one bone fits into a cuplike depression of another bone (hip and shoulder joints)
Arthrokinematics
the motions of the joints of the body (Roll, slide and spin)
arthrokinematics dysfunction ( altered joint function)
caused by altered length tension relationships and force couple relationships that affects joint movement)
