What are the issues toe nails can have & what do you observe/report?

bunions = from tight narrow shoes

blisters = from friction + pressure → rubbing against shoe

calluses = friction, rub via ill fit shoes → soaks should be 15-20 min, elders are easily burnt so be careful/sensitive

observe & report = very dry skin, odour, cracks, ingrown nails

How do you clip toes/fingers? When can you not trim? What does a hand massage promote?

fingers = length no shorter than even ends of fingers w. clippers + oval shape

toes = straight across 2 prevent ingrown hairs

• do not trim if client has diabetes, decres. circulation, thick nails, non treated blister, bunion, calluses

• hand mass = decres. depression, anxiety, agitation, isolation

What is diabetic peripheral nephropathy?

Diabetic peripheral nephropathy = decreas. blood flow = no feel in feet

• white socks needed 4 diabetics to see drainage in feet (diabetic socks) →must wick moistute, be loose

diabetic ulcer treatment used to treat what & how?

diabetic ulcer treatment = traditional total contact cast (TTCC)

benefit = quick recovery bc none remove-able + decres. pressure
