Vice
A bad moral habit that enables the tendency to sin again.
Freedom (religious view)
Freedom is the power, based in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one's own responsibility. By free will a person shapes their own life. When choosing good a person can grow in holiness but in choosing the bad a person may sin. The more a person chooses the good the more free they become.
Fortitude
A moral virtue of the courage to choose what is right when everything is telling us to run away from a situation and choose what is easiest.
Original Sin
The fallen state in which all people are conceived without sanctifying grace. This has come from the first sin of the parents of the human race, Adam and Eve.
Moral Relativism
The belief that there is no objective good and evil in the world. For the relativist, there is no good or evil in any act, just the circumstances that are relative and therefore both choices could be acceptable. This goes against catholic morality.
Sinai Covenant
A binding promise made between God and his people the Israelites through Moses. Moses received God's Laws to abide by in return.
Prudence
A moral virtue of practical wisdom that enables people to be good and act well when making decisions.
The Beatitudes
The promises of happiness made by Christ to those who faithfully accept his teaching and follow his divine example. Preached in the Sermon on the Mount, they are recorded in St. Matthew (5:3-11) and in St. Luke.
Corporal works of mercy
The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise in their bodily needs. The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead.
Spiritual works of mercy
The seven spiritual works of mercy are advising, instructing, counseling others, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving offenses willingly, comforting the afflicted, and praying for the living and the dead. These works of mercy are reflections of God's mercy.
