Warning signs
body language - up or tucked away
tail - wagging or tucked under
ears - perked up or pulled back
eyes - normal or insane (whale eye: wide open and look at you from the side)
lateral recumbency
side of the animal
RIGHT - lying ON right side
LEFT - lying ON left side
Saphenous Venipuncture
back leg, hold down (leg above knee) vain in lateral recumbency
Cephalic Venipuncture
sternal recumbency, stand on opposite side of vain, thumb on medial (inside of leg), push down and roll hand outward while extending leg
Cephalic recumbency
Cephalic vain, 1 hand around neck, 1 on leg while in a lateral recumbency
Jugular Vein Blood Draw
sternal recumbency, one hand on front limbs, one hand holding neck
OR lean over and hold up muzzle/head with both hands but do NOT cover vein
Jugular recumbency
