Christianity

Roman Catholic Church
The most powerful church in the West following the fall of Rome; it bound the region culturally.
Muslims
Primarily in the Iberian Peninsula, having conquered it in the 8th century; they were a minority group who faced waves of anti-Semitism and were forced to the outskirts of Europe.
Feudalism
The political system of decentralized Europe where powerful lords and kings gained allegiance from lesser lords, who became their vassals. Vassals got land in exchange for military service.
Manorialism and Serfdom
The economic system of decentralized Europe where peasants were bound to the land they lived and worked in exchange for a lord's protection.
