Are you with the VA?
I work with veterans, but not for the VA. The VA isn’t a life insurance company — I’m the medical underwriter they contract to shop all 26 partnered carriers and get you the best option.
Does the VA cover my burial?
The VA helps with part of the cost like the plot and headstone. The rest — service, viewing, and burial or cremation — is still on the family. My job is making sure your family isn’t left with that burden.
I don’t remember filling this out.
Most veterans fill it out for one of three reasons: to keep funeral costs off their family, to avoid leaving debt behind, or to leave something for their loved ones.
I’m not interested.
No problem — just so I update your file correctly, do you already have your funeral expenses fully taken care of?
You’re the 10th person who called me.
I hear you — but it doesn’t look like anyone from our office reached out. Probably a telemarketer.
I already have coverage.
Great — that actually helps. Did you get that recently, or have you had it for years?
Coverage was recent.
Got it — what are they charging you? Just making sure you're not overpaying.
Coverage is older.
Makes sense — do you remember if it was around $15k or $20k? Checking how much inflation has eaten into it.
This is a bad time.
Totally fine — I’ll be quick. You listed your date of birth as ___, correct? (If driving or working, I’ll reschedule.)
Can you send everything in the mail?
Absolutely — after we get you approved and match you with the best plan, the full policy gets mailed to you.
I just want to see the numbers.
There are 30 different options and all priced differently — my job is finding the lowest one that fits you.
Can you send it in the mail? (During pricing)
Of course — once approved, the full policy ships in 7–12 days and you’ll get an e-copy within 24 hours.
I’m just shopping around.
Makes sense — the veteran program already shops all 26 partnered carriers for you. Today is just about making sure you can be approved.
I need to think about it.
Absolutely — when you think about it, is it more about which option fits you best or whether you want coverage at all?
Thinking about whether to get coverage.
Just to confirm — you said you don’t have anything set aside for the expenses, right? And you don’t want your family taking loans or dipping into savings, right? So it sounds like it’s really about picking the right option.
Thinking about which option.
Most veterans start with the lowest option because it locks in today’s rate, gets the approval secured, and gives their family immediate protection.
Still unsure.
You’re the one paying for the policy, correct? And it’s for your family, right? And you wouldn’t choose anything below the basic option, right? That’s exactly what we’re locking in today.
Final pushback.
If your wife said, “Don’t get coverage, let me pay the funeral bill,” would you realistically skip it?
I need to talk to my wife.
Of course — she’s the beneficiary. When you talk to her, is it more about which option to choose or whether to get coverage at all?
Wife angle — whether to get coverage.
You said you don’t have coverage or savings set aside, right? And you don’t want her stuck with the bill, right? So it’s really just choosing the right option.
Wife angle — which option.
Most veterans start with the lowest option because it locks in the rate, secures approval, and gives you something to review together.
Wife pushback #1.
You’re paying for it, right? It’s to protect her, right? And you wouldn’t choose anything less than the lowest option, correct?
Wife pushback #2.
If she said “Don’t get coverage, I’ll pay for your funeral,” would you honestly not get it?
