What is a musket?
A muzzle loaded gun that takes 30 seconds to reload and is accurate up to 100 yards.
What is a rifle?
A gun with grooves in the barrel that causes the bullet to spin, accurate up to 300 yards but takes longer to reload than a musket.
What is a bayonet?
A long blade attached to a gun used for close combat.
What is a tomahawk?
A small axe used for close combat that can also be thrown.
What was Virginia?
The first English colony in America, dependent on tobacco.
Who fought against the Powhatans?
The English in three different wars.
Who founded New England?
The Puritans.
What was New England dependent on?
The sea.
Who did the Puritans fight against?
The Pequot.
What was King Philip's War?
The largest colonial war fought in New England with heavy losses on both sides.
What was the Iroquois Confederation?
A confederation of 6 tribes mainly living in upstate New York, allies of the English.
What was Ft Duquesne?
A French fort in modern-day Pittsburgh that Virginia claimed.
What was the role of militias in the colonies?
Private citizens called to fight when the colony needed them.
Who led the Virginia militia?
George Washington.
What happened to Braddock's army?
He lost the battle south of Pittsburgh due to lack of scouts and panic from snipers.
Who was Montcalm?
A French General sent to North America to fight Britain.
What happened at Ft. William Henry?
Montcalm attacked the British fort, leading to British surrender.
What was the Boston Massacre?
An event in 1770 where British troops opened fire on protesters, killing five men.
What did the Boston Tea Party protest?
Taxes imposed on tea by the British.
Who were the Sons of Liberty?
An anti-tax group that attacked tax collectors.
What were Minutemen?
Volunteer soldiers from England who were ready on a minute's notice.
What did Gage do in Boston?
He launched a surprise attack on Concord after learning about the weapon stash.
What happened at Lexington?
A stand-off occurred between British troops and 70 Minutemen on April 19, 1775.
What was the Continental Army?
An army established by the 13 colonies after Concord, commanded by George Washington.
