What are the advantages of hydro-electric power?
No pollution created directly from station once built, flow of water can be controlled to match demand, and there are no fuel and minimal running costs.
What are the disadvantages of hydro-electric power?
Initial costs are quite high, reservoirs can look unsightly when they dry up and big impact on environment from flooding the valley.
What are the advantages of wave power?
No pollution, no fuel costs, useful on islands where there is a lot of coastline.
What are the disadvantages of wave power?
Initial building and installation costs are quite high, turbines difficult to maintain, turbines can disturb habitats of marine animals, and amount of energy they generate is fairly unreliable when wind drops.
What are the advantages of tide power?
No pollution, reliable, no fuel costs and minimal running costs, and potential to create a lot of electricity.
What are the disadvantages of tide power?
Damns prevent free access to boats, alter habitats and spoil view, height of the tide is variable, not many suitable locations, and don’t work when water levels are the same either side of the barrage.
