When eight days had passed, Jesus' parents circumcised him and gave him the name Jesus. This was the name given to him by the angel before he was conceived.

Jesus in the Temple (at 12)

- Jesus and his parents went to Jerusalem for Festival of Passover.

- When festival was over his parents left but Jesus stayed

- They could not find him, so they went back to the temple

- When they came back they say him teaching the teachers and they were amazed by his answers

- He asks why they are searching for him "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"

- But they didn't understand him and he went to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (10)

KEY: Application of Love your Neighbor

- Only the Samaritan man helps & goes the extra mile to assist the attacked man (Not the Levite or the priest

- Why? If the Levite or the priest touches what they presume to be a dead body, they will become unclean

- The Samaritan ignores the laws of purity and the cultural/ethnic divide to help "his neighbor)

- Love for neighbor means (No boundaries on love, Love demands sacrifice, and Love expects nothing in return)

- "Go and do likewise": Jesus is training the apostles for the events ahead and for their larger role in his mission

The Parable of the Lost Sheep (15)

- A shepherd leaves his flock of ninety-nine sheep in order to find the one which is lost

- It is about the great work of man's redemption

- The lost sheep represents the sinner departed from God, and exposed to certain ruin if not brought back to him, yet not desirous to return

- When the shepherd finds the sheet he rejoices with his friend and neighbors.

- Jesus says "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent"

"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn't she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

- Second son: stayed and worked the land humbly

"Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son"

- The Rich man: "Dressed in purple and fine linen" and "feasted sumptuously every day"

- Lazarus: "poor man," "covered in sores," and "longed to satisfy his hunger with that what fell from the rich man's table"

- "between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony:

- Jesus shows the futility of spending every effort acquiring and hoarding wealth

- He is a short tax collector

- Jesus is passing through Jericho, and Zacchaeus was excited to see him, since he is short, he climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus

- Jesus saw this and told Zacchaeus to come down, he said he wanted to stay at his house

- The crowd disagreed

- Zacchaeus says he will give up some of his wealth and possessions
