How does epidermis heal?

Clotting and formation of scab, then epithelial cells multiply and fill over granulation tissue and as the area matures it contracts tightening the area.

How does the dermis heal?

As it doesn't shed, fibroblasts from dense mass of connective fibres that will turn into a scar if not replaced by normal tissue
