Conformation
Describes the way a horse’s body is put together.
Observing structural correctness, muscling, type (breed), size
Head
Proportional to body, refined; forehead straight, no curvature (breed differences)
Ears correct size, alert; nostrils wide & refined
Jaw Defects
Parrot Mouth: upper jaw extends past lower jaw
Monkey Mouth: lower jaw extends past upper jaw
Neck
Proportional, appropriate length; two equal curves
Well-set into withers and shoudlers
Chest and Withers
Chest: broad, allow room for heart and lungs
Not too broad - horse toes out
Forelimb
Side: Points from shoulder, mid-elbow, through knee and fetlock; hoof should hit the ground between point of shoulder and point of elbow.
Front: Line dropped from point of shoulder should bisect strqaightly down all limb bones and hoof.
