Combination/Synthesis Reaction
A type of reaction where elements combine, forming only one product.
Decomposition
When an existing compound is broken down into its component elements or into simpler compounds.
Single Displacement Reaction
When an element take the place or replace another element in an existing compound. For this type of reaction, a more reactive element is required to displace a less active one.
Double Displacement Reaction
When two compounds react such as the cation(+) of one element and the anion(-) of the other element combine or exchange partners. In this reaction, there should be two reactant that will produce two products.
This is equal to the total number of electrons removed or added in the elemental/Neutral state of an element.
• When electrons are removed from the neutral state, an element will have a positive oxidation state or charge.
• When electrons are added to the neutral state, an element will have a negative oxidation state or charge.
Hydrogen gas
a colourless gas which does not have any distinct odour. This gas is sparingly soluble in water. The solubility of this gas in water is not affected too much by any changes in temperature.
