Osmosis
The movement of water molecules from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration across a semi-permeable membrane.
Osmosis in Animals
1) The Kidneys absorb water from digested food to aid in urine production.
2) Fish that live in fresh water environments excrete large amounts of urine to maintain homeostasis.
Osmosis in Plants
1) Plants in take water through their roots to be used for life processes such as Photosynthesis.
2) Plants absorb water and use it for turgor pressure, which helps maintain structure and support.
Active Transport in Animals
1) Cells releasing manufactured hormones and antibodies outside the cell.
2) Absorbing glucose or amino acids during digestion, when the digested products are in a lower concentration in the intestines.
Active Transport in Plants
1) Plants take minerals through their roots to be used for life processes, if the minerals are in lower conc. outside the cell.
2) Plants transport manufactured sugars to fruits, even though they have higher sugar content than the leaves where they are made.
