Nat Turner

led a slave revolt in southampton County, Virginia. Over 50 white men, women and children were killed. A white militia quickly responded and killed not only Nat Turner and his followers, but also many innocent african americans

A free African American who forged a plan with his congregants of a large African Methodist Church (congregants were largely enslaved) to seize the ships at the harbor of Charleston and sail away to freedom, possibly Haiti.
