reduced mortality rates from 6/1k 1943 to

0.6/1k in 1951

1973 WHO announced

Malaria had been eliminated from the island

1975

Cyclone Gervaise

migrant workers

to improve infrastructure brought malarias parasite to Mauritius

1982

second eliminiation campaign

2nd campaign included

spraying of homes and breeding sites with insecticides

Rigorous screening implemented in airports in

1998

also

took blood samples

2nd campaign involved

mass adminsitration of antimlaraial drugs 8

0ver 80% access to the

antimalarial drug

those contaminated were kept

under survellence by health worker

only been one imported case of malaria
