Shock
A momentary pause in the act of death.
Shock
The manifestation of the rude unhinging of the machinery of life.
Perfusion
Circulation of blood through different organs and tissues.
Hypoperfusion
Inadequate Flow.
Pathophysiology of shock
Reduced perfusion, neuroendocrine response, cytokine response, redistribution of flow to vital organs, ischemia of non-vital organs, flow maldistribution within organs, dysoxia & multiple organ failure.
Compensated shock
Perfusion maintained.
Decompensated shock
Cellular hypoxia.
Irreversible shock
End organ failure.
Hypovolemic shock
Diminished blood volume.
Cardiogenic shock
Inefficient myocardial function.
Neurogenic shock
Peripheral vasodilatation leading to decreased resistance and increased pooling.
Anaphylactic shock
Antigen-antibody reaction leading to rupture of mast cells and the release of histamine, causing widespread vasodilatation.
Septic shock
Severe bacterial sepsis leading to toxins.
