Regenerated Fiber

• Made from natural materials (usually plant-based like wood pulp or cotton linters)

• The natural material is chemically processed and re-formed into fibers

• So they start natural → get dissolved → then “regenerated” into a new fibe

Synthetic Fiber

• Made from completely man-made chemicals, usually derived from petroleum (oil)

• Built from scratch through chemical synthesis

• No natural fiber structure to begin with

Why does a higher fabric count indicate a higher quality fabric?

• Less shrinkage

• Less raveling

• Finer, strong yarns

When is a fabric “on-grain”?

when the wrap thread and weft threads are at a 90 degree angle to one another –this is ideal!
