Active Transport
The process of moving molecules across a membrane against their concentration gradient using energy.
Carrier-mediated transport
Transport that involves carrier proteins to move substances across the cell membrane.
Endocytosis
The process of transporting large materials into the cell.
Exocytosis
The process of transporting materials out of the cell using Golgi bodies and transport vesicles. ex: waste, hormones(insulin), and neurotransmitters
Na/K pump
Carrier mediated active transport located in neurons that moves 3 sodium ions out of the cell and 2 potassium ions into the cell.
Electrogenic/H+/Proton pump
Active Transport Pump located in chloroplasts and mitochondria used to form ATP
Phagocytosis
A type of endocytosis known as 'cell eating', where solid materials are engulfed by the cell. ex: ameoba eating algae cells
Pinocytosis
A type of endocytosis known as 'cell drinking', where liquids are brought into the cell.
Receptor-mediated endocytosis
A process where receptor proteins facilitate the uptake of specific molecules, such as LDL cholesterol.
Contransport Pump
Active transport pump that is a combination of H+ pump and carrier proteins that bring in large molecules
