1
New cards

name examples of chemical energy stores

fuels, food, and chemicals found in batteries

2
New cards

what is kinetic energy

the energy an object has because it is moving

3
New cards

what is gravitational potential energy

energy stored in an object because of its position above such as an object above the ground

4
New cards

what is elastic potential energy

the energy stored in a springing object when you stretch or squash it

5
New cards

what is thermal energy

energy a substance has because of its temperature

6
New cards

what happens in terms of energy stores when a object falls from a height

the gravitational potential energy decreases whilst the kinetic energy increase

7
New cards

what is the conservation of energy

energy can not be created nor destroyed

8
New cards

what energy transfers happen to a bungee jumpers after jumping off a platform

when the rope is slack energy is transferred from the gravitational potential energy stores to the kinetic energy store as the jumper accelerates towards the ground due t the force of gravity

when the rope tighten, it slows the bungee jumpers fall. the jumpers kinetic energy store decreases and the ropes elastic potential energy store increase as the rope stretches . eventually the jumper comes to a stop, the energy that was originally in the kinetic energy store of the jumper comes to a stop, the energy that was originially in the kinetic energy store of the jumper has all been tranfered into the elastic potential

9
New cards

what is work done

when a force makes the object move

10
New cards

what is work done messured in

joules

11
New cards

what is force applied messured in

newtons

12
New cards

what is distance moved messured in

meters

13
New cards

does gravitonal energy increases as the object is raised

when an object is raised the gpe increase

14
New cards

why does the gpe increase when an object is lifted

becasue work is done on it to overcome hte gravitonal force

15
New cards

what is change in gravitational potential measured in

joules

16
New cards

what is weight measured in

newtons

17
New cards

what is change of height measured in

meters

18
New cards

what does kinetic enegy depend on

the object moving mass and speed

19
New cards

what is kinetic energy measured in

joules

20
New cards

what is mass measured in

kilograms

21
New cards

what is speed/ velocity

m/s ^2

22
New cards

what is elastic potential energy measured in

joules

23
New cards

what is spring constant measured in

newtons per meter

24
New cards

what is extension measured in

meters

25
New cards

what is useful energy

the energy in the place we want it in the form we need it

26
New cards

what is waste energy

is the energy that is not useful energy and is transferred by undesired pathway, it is eventually transferred to the surrounding which becomes warmer

27
New cards

what happens when energy become disspated

less usefull

28
New cards

why do machines waste energy

because of fricction ebtweeen their moving parts air resistance elcttila resistnace and noise

29
New cards

which energy supplies are most used in the home

electricity gas and oil

30
New cards

what is power

the rate of transfer of energy
