A tresspasser is any person ‘on or near the line’ who does not have the authority to be there.

On or near the line-

Within 10ft or 3 m of a line and there is no permanent structure between you and the line.

On the line itself.

You are not on or near the line if:

On a station platform unless you are carrying out engineering or technical work within 4 ft or 1.25m within platform edge.

Location of trespassers

Whether trespassers lineside or on or near the line

If the trespassers are moving which direction they are moving in

Whether the trespassers appear likely to endanger trains.

A brief description of trespassers including distinguishing features and what they are wearing.

If trespassers are on or near the line or are lineside and going towards the line, you must:

Stop each train which would proceed over the affected portion of line.

Tell the driver what is happening and to proceed at caution past the location.

Continue to do this until you are sure the line is clear.

If tunnel tell driver not to exceed 10mph and must not allow more than one train.

If you become aware of animals likely to cause obstruction, minor obstacles, or trespassers likely to endanger trains you must:

You do not need to examine the line but you must tell the driver what is happening and to proceed at caution over the affected portion. Also not to exceed 10 mph in any tunnel affected.

You must not allow more than one train to be in the tunnel at the same time.

Continue to caution all trains until sure the line is clear again
