Matter that contains 2 or more pure substances
Can be in any state
Many include pure substances that can be harmful if they escape into the environment

Mercury

Pure substance that is toxic to animals and people

CFLs

Stands for compact fluorescent light bulbs
Contain mercury
Should be carefully recycled

Recycling CFLs

Avoid disposing in the regular garbage
Deposit at special recycling stations so their components can be separated out and recycled
