CORONA the very top of the birds head
FOREHEAD front of the head betwen beak and crown
LORE small area between the eye and top of beak (use eye to watch lore videos)
CERE soft fleshy area above the beak where the nostrils are (cere is the sound a bird would make thru it’s nose)
BILL/BEAK the birds mouth upper and lower mouth
MALA side of the head just behind the lower beak
GULARIS area from chin down to the chest (gullet = gularis)
NUCHA back of the neck, from the skull to upper back
DORSUM middle top of the birds body (dorsum = dorsal)
PYGA lower back, just before upper tail converts (GA is what a bird would say if you plucked a feather from the PYGA)
PECTUS lower part of the body between throat and belly
FLANK
sides of the body, above the thight and going back to the tail
VENTRUM underside of the body, between pectus and vent
VENT opening of the cloaca, where the tail meets the belly
FOMORAL upper leg, proximal segment of the leg (where the artery is)
CRURAL middle part of the leg, just distal to the knee, feathered
TARSUS distal part of the leg, not feathered
HALLUS the first digit, or the hind toe. used to perch
SCAPULAR dorsal section of the body where the wing connects to the trunk (same name as the religious tags)
AXILLARY ventral section of body where wing connects to trunk (the armpit)
REMIGES the stiff main feathers of a birds wing (M upside down is W for wing)
RETRICE the stiff main feathers of the birds tail (T for tail)
