• First cat breed selectively bred to resemble a wild cat (ocelot), NO wild blood

• Should not be left alone for long periods

• Come in variety of colors

Russian Blue

• Known as the archangel cat or Foreign Blue

• Short, dense coat, bright blue color with each hair dipped in silver

• Plush double coat

• Vivid green eyes

• Shy nature, intelligent, affectionate

Selkirk Rex

• One of the newest breeds (around 1987)

• Originated from breeder in Montana. Bred a Rex housecat to a black Persian

• If whiskers aren’t curly when buying a cat, fur won’t be curly

• aka. teddy bear cat

Somali

• Looks like a “little red fox”

• Likely originated from the Abyssinian (name history unknown)

• Uses feet similarly to hands, can open cabinets, etc. Not a lap cat

• Hair striped along shaft

• Intelligent but quiet

• Come in 4 colors: red, ruddy, blue, and fawn

Maine Coon

• Native American long haired cat (founded in Maine)

• Numerous folklores surround breed

• Developed by “survival of the fittest” for the conditions

• “Gentle giant”

• Great inside and outside cats

What breed has a controversial breeding regimen?

Scottish Fold- If you breed two cats with folded ears, half will die. 25% will die in utero and 25% will die after birth.
