Chesapeake

The environment was mild and had fertile land. The economy was based on Tobacco. Religion was Anglican, Catholics, and Jews.  There was little people at the top in the social hierarchy.The colonies were Jamestown and Maryland

Jamestown Virgina

It started off as a joint-stock company called the Virginia Company. 

-They were looking for gold but there wasn't any there so they died due to dysentery and malaria. 

-They also had conflict with Natives so this will lead for it to be bad in the beginning but then Tobacco will save them.

-John Rolfe and his wife Pocahontas were able to save the colony through the export of tobacco. John Rolfe was the one introduced to it from the Natives.

1632 King Charles who created Maryland which became a safe place for catholics.

-1649 the Maryland Act of Toleration was adopted.

New England Colonies

It had a mixed economy; they had subsistence family farming exported rum, fish, and lumber. It was Congregationalist (Puritan), or Presbyterian. The colonies were those island and plymouth.

They were focused on religion

-The pilgrims came they wanted to escape the religious persecution faced in England 

-A lot of the population had more families. 

-The first set of pilgrims set sail on the Mayflower in 1620.

-They were known as Separatists wanting to get away from the Church of England.

-The men had to sign the mayflower compact this made is where the men knew they were the leader of their families and had certain rules in the colony.

-Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630 was led by John Winthrop who was a Puritan who believed that the church could be reformed or purified.

Rhode Island

Roger Williams was banished in 1635 from Massachusetts bay for heresy because he spoke out against taking native american land and government involvement with God.

-He was the founder

Anne Hutchinson was banished in 1638 for heresy; she felt anyone who worshipped God could go to heave. 

-Her and her followers founded Portsmouth
