Ionic Charge
The electrical charge associated with ions, determined by the loss or gain of electrons.
Criss Cross Method
A technique used to determine the formula of an ionic compound by crossing the charges of the ions.
HCI
Hydrochloric acid, a strong acid formed from hydrogen and chloride ions.
NH4
The ammonium ion, which has a positive charge and consists of one nitrogen atom and four hydrogen atoms.
PO4
The phosphate ion, a polyatomic ion composed of one phosphorus atom surrounded by four oxygen atoms.
Sr(OH)2
Strontium hydroxide, a chemical compound formed from strontium and hydroxide ions.
CO3
The carbonate ion, a negatively charged polyatomic ion composed of one carbon atom and three oxygen atoms.
NO3
The nitrate ion, a polyatomic ion consisting of one nitrogen atom and three oxygen atoms.
HCO3
The bicarbonate ion, a negatively charged ion that can act as both an acid and a base.
OH
The hydroxide ion, a negatively charged ion consisting of one oxygen atom and one hydrogen atom.
