Backcloth/drop
A painted cloth hung at the back of a theatre stage as part of the scenery.
Flies
The space above the stage where scenery and lighting can hang out of audience view.
Gauze
Material that is used to create a backdrop and when back lit becomes transparent.
Flat
A piece of 2D scenery consisting of a frame, usually covered with canvas, on to which scenery is painted, weights are used to keep a flat upright.

A cloth strerched tight in an arc around the back of a stage set, often used to depict the sky.

A cut through section of the stage floor through which actors or scenery can appear.
