Crew Resource Management (CRM)
A set of skills designed to avoid, detect, and/or mitigate human error and thus enhance safety during flight operations.
Situational Awareness
Knowing what’s going on around you; critical in preventing accidents or incidents.
Pilot Flying (PF)
The pilot who controls the aircraft regarding assigned airway, course, altitude, airspeed, etc.
Pilot Monitoring (PM)
The pilot responsible for maintaining ATC communications and completing checklists while the PF is flying.
Normal Procedures
Standardized procedures and actions that pilots follow during normal flight operations.
Emergency Procedures
Special procedures designed to ensure safety during abnormal situations or emergencies.
Engine Start (HOTEL mode)
Procedure for starting engines with the propeller brake engaged and allowing the engine to run.
Takeoff Procedure
The series of coordinated actions and checklists performed to safely execute a takeoff.
Descent Checklist
A checklist to ensure all necessary actions and preparations are completed before descending.
Flight Management System (FMS)
A computer system that manages navigation and flight operations for the aircraft.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Detailed, written instructions to describe how to perform specific tasks.
Checklists
A series of steps that must be followed to ensure proper operation of controls and systems.
Hot Battery Buses
Electrical circuits that supply power when the aircraft is in standby or emergency mode.
TOLD Cards
Takeoff and Landing Data cards used to record flight planning data in the cockpit.
Memory Items
Critical actions that must be performed by pilots from memory during emergencies.
Auditory Cues
Sound signals used during flight operations to alert pilots to specific conditions or actions.
Visual Cues
Visual indicators used to provide information about aircraft operations during flight.
Weight and Balance
The distribution of weight within the aircraft, crucial for safe flight performance.
